Welcome to the City of Decatur, Arkansas where working together we can do awesome things! The City of Decatur is a small community that is tucked away in the rolling foothills of the Ozark Mountains where two state highways intersect. Historically a well stood in the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 102 where the only four-way stoplight hangs now. This was the center of town and where people congregated on days that they would come to town.

Decatur has seen a lot of changes over the years and as all towns have done, it has seen better days and not so better days. This year the Decatur Community that lies approximately six miles west on Carlton Drive and Highwy 102 West was hit by the widest tornado in state history. According to KNWA Fox 24 (https://www.nwahomepage.com/weather/one-supercell-to-remember/nws-ef3-decatur-tornado-was-widest-in-recorded-state-history/) it was an EF3 with estimated peak wind of 145 to 155 mph. The path length was 7.9 miles, and the width was 3200 yards, or 1.82 miles.

During this life changing event, the citizens of decatur came together and worked together to help those who were devastated by the tragic loss of their home, vehicle, livelihoods, and more. Love from outside of the community poured in by loads of donations and acts of kindness through debris removal. It was a scary night, a night that left people homeless, jobless, and very little in possessions. 

This story is still unfolding as those families work to rebuild their lives back.
